  • General Precautions for Custom Optical Products
  • 1. Clearly define the spectral range and environmental requirements. Products such as optical filters for ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared/mid-to-far-infrared bands differ greatly, with completely different materials, coatings, and processes. Operating temperature, humidity, vibration, whether in a vacuum, and whether high-power laser exposure occurs directly determine the reliability and service life of optical components.
  • 2. Accuracy requirements should be reasonable to avoid overdesign. The stricter the surface figure accuracy, roughness, parallelism, lens decentration, and center thickness tolerances of optical components, the more costs and delivery times increase exponentially.
  • 3. The requirements for optical component processing and coating should be clearly specified. Provide relevant drawings or communicate the requirements to confirm specifications if necessary. Coating types such as high-reflective, anti-reflective, band-pass, and cut-off should specify the coating material requirements, angle of incidence (cone angle), polarization state, spectral characteristics, and laser power tolerance. Indicate whether the components will be used in harsh environments, and whether hard coatings, waterproof coatings, or laser-resistant coatings are needed to prevent delamination or mildew in the future.
  • 4. Testing and acceptance criteria should be agreed upon in advance. Transmittance/reflectance test wavelengths, incidence angles, and testing equipment standards. Acceptance methods and acceptable ranges for surface shape, focal length, eccentricity, and damage threshold.
  • 5. Special requirements instructions. Marking symbols, engraving, coating numbers; clean packaging, anti-static, vacuum packaging; quality inspection report requirements: spectral curves, surface profile reports, dimensional inspection reports, etc.
  • 6. Delivery time and minimum order quantity. Sample quantity, mass production quantity; expected delivery time, whether delivery is in batches, etc. Custom coatings, special materials, aspheric lenses, and precision grinding usually have longer delivery times.
